ToggleShort Answer
Blossom in Astore Valley comes late — typically late April to May, after Hunza and Skardu have finished their season. Astore town sits at around 2,600 m, higher than Hunza, so its orchards open weeks behind the lower valleys. The bloom is a lower-valley affair: Astore town, Gorikot, Chillam and Tarishing, where cherry, apricot and almond flower in the orchards. Rama and the high valleys stay snowbound into June, so their blossom — if it comes at all — is reported, not promised. One honest note up front: no licence-verified blossom photo of Astore exists on Wikimedia Commons. This guide’s featured image is an honest spring photograph of Astore town, captioned as spring and never as blossom.
Astore blossom at a glance
| Place | Altitude | Typical bloom | What to see |
|---|---|---|---|
| Astore town (Eidgah orchards) | ~2,600 m | Late April – May | Town orchards, first bloom |
| Gorikot village | Lower valley | Late April – May | Village orchards |
| Chillam Valley | Lower valley | Late April – May | Orchards on the valley floor |
| Tarishing village | Lower valley | Late April – May | Orchards below the Rupal face |
| Rama Meadows / Rama Lake | ~3,300 m | If accessible, May (reported) | Meadows and lake, jeep access only |
| Minimarg / upper Astore | High valleys | Snowbound in spring | Not a blossom destination |
Timing is reported, not official — sources disagree, with one claiming March to May and the more careful reading putting the season at late April to May. This guide uses late April to May and says so plainly. Confirm locally before you travel.
When does Astore Valley bloom?
Late, and briefly. By the time Hunza and Skardu have finished their blossom season, Astore is just beginning. The lower valley — Astore town, Gorikot, Chillam, Tarishing — blooms in late April to May. One operator claims a broader March-to-May season, but the late-April start is more consistent with the valley’s altitude, and this guide does not repeat the March start. Spring daytime temperatures run around 12–22°C with cool nights, so pack light warm layers. The high valleys are a different story: Minimarg and upper Astore are generally reachable only from June to September and are usually still closed by snow in spring.
Where are the best places to see blossom in Astore?
Astore town and its Eidgah orchards are the first and easiest bloom — walk the town’s orchards in late April, when the valley floor is green and the peaks are still white. Gorikot village and Chillam Valley hold the lower valley’s orchards, quiet and unphotographed, with the same trees and almost no visitors. Tarishing village sits below the Rupal face of Nanga Parbat, and its orchards flower with the great wall behind them — the valley’s most dramatic blossom setting, if you catch the week right.

Rama Meadows and Rama Lake are the question mark. Operators list them as blossom spots, but Rama sits at around 3,300 m and is reached by jeep from Astore town — and operators themselves hedge it as “if accessible”. Treat Rama blossom as reported, not promised, and do not build a trip around it. The same goes for Minimarg: it is a June-to-September destination, not a spring one.

Why does Astore bloom last?
Altitude and aspect. Astore town at around 2,600 m sits higher than Karimabad and Skardu town, and its valleys hold the winter longer. The bloom wave that starts in Gilgit city in February and reaches Hunza in March does not reach Astore until late April. That lateness is the valley’s gift: when every other blossom guide is writing about a finished season, Astore is just opening. It is also the reason to be careful with the generic “mid-March to end of April” cherry-blossom window that some operators quote for Gilgit-Baltistan — that figure describes Hunza, Phander and Skardu, and it does not apply to Astore.
How do I get to Astore Valley in blossom season?
Turn off the Karakoram Highway at Jaglot and drive to Astore town — Chilas to Astore is about four hours. Rama is a jeep ride from Astore town. Roads in the lower valley are normally open through the blossom season, but confirm conditions locally before you travel, especially after rain or a late snowfall. Do not plan a spring trip around Deosai from Astore either — the Deosai road stays closed until June, and our Deosai guide covers the summer window.
Is Astore blossom worth the trip?
If you are chasing the famous blossom photographs, no — Hunza and Skardu do that better, with more bloom and more infrastructure. If you are already in the north in late April or May and want a quiet valley with orchards, a great mountain wall and almost no other travellers, yes — Astore is the last blossom in Gilgit-Baltistan, and it feels like a secret. Pair it with Minimarg and Domel later in the summer, when the high valleys open; our Minimarg and Domel guide covers that trip.
