Apricot blossom in Nagar Valley runs from late March to early May, a little longer than Hunza because the valley climbs from Nilt at the bottom to Hoper at the top. Nilt and Nagar Khas bloom first in early April, Minapin peaks in late March to mid-April, and Hoper — at around 2,800 m beside its glacier — blooms last, in early May. Apricot blooms first and cherry follows a few days later, and apricot is usually the dominant tree. Nagar is Hunza’s quieter neighbour across the river: the same white and pink orchards, the same Rakaposhi views, and far fewer visitors.
This guide is the Nagar deep-dive of our Spring Blossom in Gilgit-Baltistan guide.
Nagar blossom at a glance
| Village | Altitude | Typical peak | What to see |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nilt / Nagar Khas | Lower valley | Early April | Earliest bloom, village paths |
| Minapin | ~2,000 m | Late March – mid-April | Orchard lanes, Rakaposhi View Point |
| Sumayar Valley | Mid valley | Late March – mid-April | Orchards with Diran Peak behind |
| Hoper / Hopar | ~2,800 m | Early May | Latest bloom, glacier-side village |
Timing shifts 1–3 weeks with the winter — a warm winter brings bloom forward, a cold snap delays it. Treat every date in this guide as a typical range and confirm locally before you travel.
When does Nagar Valley bloom?
Nagar blooms in a wave that follows altitude, just like Hunza — but it starts a touch later at the top and finishes later too. The lower villages (Nilt, Nagar Khas) open first in early April. Minapin, the valley’s main blossom village, peaks from late March to mid-April. Hoper, high beside its glacier, holds its blossom until early May. Across the valley the season lasts two to three weeks in any one village, and about five weeks from the first lower-village bloom to the last Hoper blossom.
The practical point: if Hunza is already past its peak, Nagar — especially Hoper — may still be in full bloom. Travellers who miss Karimabad’s peak in early April can still catch blossom across the river. For the wider seasonal picture, see our Best Time to Visit Gilgit-Baltistan guide.
Where are the best places to see blossom in Nagar?
Minapin is the valley’s blossom base. The village sits on the Karakoram Highway above Pissan, 4 km off the highway, among cherry and apricot orchards, with the Rakaposhi View Point above it. Walk the orchard lanes in the morning, then climb to the viewpoint in the afternoon. Minapin is also the trailhead for the Rakaposhi Base Camp Trek to Tagaphari, so blossom and trekking combine naturally here.

Nilt and Nagar Khas are the lower villages, and they bloom first. The village paths between Nilt and Hoper are described by travellers as being as scenic as anything in Hunza during blossom — orchards, old stone houses and Rakaposhi across the valley — with almost nobody else on them.
Sumayar Valley (Boshat, Daltho) is the orchard heart of Nagar on the valley’s south side, with Diran Peak (7,266 m) behind the blossom. It is the quietest of the valley’s blossom spots and the most photogenic at sunrise.
Hoper is the last bloom in the valley and the most dramatic setting: a glacier-side village at around 2,800 m, reached by a narrow jeep track above Nagar Khas, with the Hoper Glacier an hour’s walk away. Come here in early May, when the lower valley has already turned green. For more on the valley, see our Hoper Valley Travel Guide, and for a longer trek from the valley, our Rush Lake Trek Guide.

How is Nagar blossom different from Hunza blossom?
Same trees, same mountains, different feeling. Hunza has the forts, the bazaar and the crowds; Nagar has the orchards, the village paths and the quiet. The bloom itself is similar — apricot first, cherry a few days later, apple and almond in the mix — but Nagar’s stays are smaller (Minapin’s family guesthouses are the main in-valley option) and its blossom window runs a little longer at the top end. If you want the classic blossom photographs, go to Hunza. If you want to walk through blossom orchards with almost no one else around, go to Nagar. Many travellers do both: Karimabad first, then across the river to Minapin.

How do I get to Nagar Valley in blossom season?
Nagar sits on the Karakoram Highway between Gilgit and Hunza, so the valley is on the way, not a detour. Minapin is a short drive off the highway above Pissan. Hoper is reached by a narrow jeep track above Nagar Khas — hire a local jeep in Nagar Khas rather than driving it yourself. The Hoper Glacier walk takes about an hour from Minapin. Roads are normally open through blossom season, but confirm conditions locally before you travel, especially after rain or a late snowfall.

Where should I stay for blossom season in Nagar?
Stay in the valley, not across the river in Hunza. Minapin’s family guesthouses — Diran Guest House is the best-known — put you among the orchards, and Hoper has a small number of guesthouses for the late bloom. Book a month in advance for the blossom window: this is the most photographed window in the entire Karakoram, and Nagar’s stays are few. If Minapin is full, Karimabad across the river is the fallback — but then Nagar becomes a day trip, and a day trip misses the early-morning light that makes the valley special.

Frequently asked questions
When is apricot blossom season in Nagar Valley?
Late March to early May across the valley. Nilt and Nagar Khas bloom first in early April, Minapin peaks from late March to mid-April, and Hoper blooms last in early May. Timing shifts 1–3 weeks with the winter, so confirm locally before you travel.
How is Nagar blossom different from Hunza blossom?
The trees and mountains are similar, but Nagar is quieter — orchard lanes and village paths instead of forts and bazaars, and far fewer visitors. Its season also runs a little longer at the top end, so Hoper can still be in bloom after Karimabad has turned green.
Can I visit Nagar as a day trip from Hunza?
You can, but you will miss the best of it. The early-morning light in the orchards is the valley’s best hour, and that needs an overnight stay. Minapin’s family guesthouses are the main in-valley option — book a month ahead for blossom season.
Where should I stay in Nagar during blossom?
Minapin for the main bloom, Hoper for the late bloom in early May. Diran Guest House in Minapin is the best-known stay. If the valley is full, Karimabad across the river is the fallback.
Is Hoper reachable in blossom season?
Yes, by a narrow jeep track above Nagar Khas — hire a local jeep rather than driving it yourself. The Hoper Glacier walk takes about an hour from Minapin. Hoper blooms latest in the valley, in early May.
What trees bloom in Nagar?
Cherry, apricot, apple and almond. Apricot usually blooms first and cherry follows a few days later, and apricot is often more dominant than cherry in the valley’s orchards.
